Original Space Marines at GW are being discontinued.

Post by TinyLegions »

I don't call them "First Born" unless I have to as there is only one true Space Marine. Those Primaris marines are ugly abominations that GW foisted on their customers for a variety of business reason that had nothing to do with the hobby. Looks like from the below article that what is left of the old guard Space Marines is now being discontinued:

Unfortunately the writing has been on the wall for a while, so I have been preparing for this day the best that I can when I decided that I was going to stop at a specific point. I am almost there on my Space Marine collection with only a few more items left to collect, which I can probably do here in the next month or so with some judicious purchases at my LGS or online. Kind of melancholy but all things must past. Perhaps we can get a few converts onto this site and get some people to roll some dice on a classic 40K edition. One can always hope.

This is why I'm so thankful that I have the 3rd ed. players I have. I've been off the modern GW train for a while now.

To be honest, the last game that I played of 40K was back in the 7th edition. I am more likely to play OPR before I crack open the 11th edition of 40K. Also I either did not notice it, or they added this to the article, but Pedro Kantor got demoted to "Captain." Marcus Aureleaus at least was offered a clean killing. Added Insult to injury is over the line there. I was contemplating seeing if I would get other armies up an running for 40K, but don't bet on it now.

Any addition of 40K that refuses to have a runnable version of Captain Cortez is dead to me

Cortez was before my time, but fair point given your penchant for the 3rd. That is what this forum is for, have it your way.

Funny enough Just Tony, I had the opposite with Cortez. I ran a proxy Captain with a bit of green stuff on the shoulder in a 9th ed game at the club and nobody batted an eyelid, we just got on with it. Definately not the same as having proper rules for him, but I had alot more fun than I expected.
