Re: Starting another army...
Well......... the cavalry and chariots come with the right base. That just leaves 73 infantry. More seriously, most of the larger things kept the same base size. Carrion, bone giants, anything on a chariot or skeleton horse, ushabti, the casket, and tomb swarms (though that's a new model) are all th...

Re: Starting another army...
I take it you're not interested in all the 6th edition model rereleases that GW has been doing recently then, since they're offering single units for what you paid for a battalion.

Is this a gunline? Flank attack, 2000 points
This was a strange game in many ways. I don't much feel like posting a play-by-play, though I suppose I could try to recreate the game in more detail, but this was a game of strange impressions. So here goes, and hopefully it will be enjoyable anyway. Flank attack, 2000 points Dwarfs vs Dark Elves A...

Re: Clarification Around Daemon-Beasts of Nurgle
You can also buy them for your roster as mounts proper for the Daemonic Herald (page 28), where that rule on page 29 would presumably apply without confusion and replace the similar rule about avoiding instability until the rider is killed for mortal units riding the daemonic mounts in Hordes of Cha...

If I catch wind of anyone playing 6th in Canada I'll give you a whistle. You could also try the 6th Ed. Facebook group for some opponents as well as possibly dakkadakka.com I think I've mentioned I'm from there a time or two: https://www.classichammer.com/viewtopic.php?p=220&hilit=Canada#p220 O...

Re: Beastmen advice
Remember that chariots have the mark of chaos undivided, so get to reroll their terror (and all other psychology) tests. They succeed a lot more than they fail. As for the rapturous standard: Special Note: Models from the Beasts of Chaos book can also use items from the Hordes of Chaos book within t...

Re: Beastmen advice
While Treemen may be dealt with via our own monsters, the forest dragon requires more consideration. It is simply too fast for our monsters to readily engage and thus may prove frustrating as it easily, if cowardly, avoids our monsters until it thinks it can beat them. There are alternatives however...

Re: Chaos Warriors are actually kinda bad....
That could be confusing without following context closely. I was comparing the various options in the post above and it mentioned "a couple units of ogres". Two units means two choices, no tricksy, hard-to-find rule.

Re: From the Wastes/Unstoppable assault feels bad
Hold the Line is certainly an uphill battle for Dwarfs, but as you mentioned, gyrocopters help. Other things that can help include pursuing fleeing units to grab an extra turn's movement. Also, dwarfs have that problem with most scenarios that require movement (Sheer Heroism, Rear Guard, and Breakth...

From the Wastes/Unstoppable assault feels bad
I got to experience a couple games of the Unstoppable Assault scenario from Storm of Chaos and having done so, I'm not sure I want to play it again. For the first game, Dwarfs attacked Lizardmen while I watched and the Lizardmen won a massacre. For the second, my Dark Elves attacked the Dwarfs and t...

Dark Elves taking way too long
Around 2006 or so, I started collecting Dark Elves because I'd tired of playing Beastmen and I didn't enjoy my brief foray into Lizardmen. I think I painted a unit of crossbowmen, a bolt thrower, some shades and a sorceress before stopping playing Warhammer entirely (I picked up the army books for B...

Re: Wood Elves 1500pts
Welcome. While I don't play wood elves, I do have a couple comments. 1) Assuming the Wild rider noble is with the kindred, the combination of the blight of terrors and Faoghir, the Banner of Dwindling seem a bit at cross purposes. If your goal is to make the opponent run before the fight with terror...

Re: A sorceress looks out from a fortification
Not much, mostly serendipity: 1) A single piece of pressed paper packing material from some electronic device my brother-in-law bought and I noticed looked a lot like a fortification. What you see is how it came out of the box. 2) Toothpicks for ladders 3) Aquarium gravel (the rocks in the foregroun...

Re: Building up Lizardmen
It's not quite a fortress, but there will be some Lustria-centric terrain: Partial temple Getting some temple guard and a stegadon does end up with 1 of almost everything at this point, though the saurus warriors seem to be a bit disappointing without the ranks to decisively win. Ah well, odd box si...

Re: Building up Lizardmen
Still no salamanders. Ended up with the old Lord Kroak model (hooray for unexpected made to order) which will hopefully be mostly used as an ordinary Slann, and chameleon skinks. These are what he found exciting, so since it's his army, that's what we got. So it's now: Lord Kroak skink chief 2 skink...

Re: Chaos Warriors are actually kinda bad....
So your group hasn't figured out how to avoid that unit and focus on destroying the rest of the army? I don't think I have a single army to date that can't force a redirect and position things so I can simply ignore that superbus or commit it to chasing something cheap or feed it swarms. Some peopl...

Re: Chaos Warriors are actually kinda bad....
I've been playing a lot of 6th Edition recently. Running a unit of 30 Chosen Khorne Warriors with 2 Hand-weapons, Full Command, and the Banner of Rage. I run them 6 across. They include an Exalted Champion and occasionally a Sorcerer, for full disclosure. Across my last 10 games, this unit has take...

Re: Chaos Warriors are actually kinda bad....
I wrote a few paragraphs and eventually decided I was arguing for the sake of arguing, so I deleted it and started over. They're not the greatest of units, but it's possible to find units they're better at fighting than marauders (especially unbreakable units). The option to take marks also lets the...

Re: Chaos Warriors are actually kinda bad....
If they don't hit hard enough, then the upgrades you want are those that increase hitting power, not survivability. Don't take shields. At initiative 5, the approach of having more/better attacks instead of relying on armour to prevent wounds works very well. A unit of 10 warriors with extra hand we...

Faster Dwarfs
I got to watch a game of Dwarfs vs Lizardmen recently with Dwarfs as the attacker and once again, the Dwarfs lost because they simply couldn't enter melee soon enough. There are a few attempts to resolve this within 6th edition: the Slayer army got a free move at the start of the game, the 6.5 book ...

**But this turns out to be the offending concept that I'd mistakenly brought into the game unwittingly. My first wargame was Mustangs and Messerschmitts. The hitbox of the plane you are piloting is marked on the top of the wheeled flight stand so I guess I carried over this artifact from early expe...

Re: The Effectiveness of Spears in 6th Edition
I've since built a more "optimised" block with sword and board Fun fact. If your skeletons can strike first, spears are often better. For example, if you're casting Hellish Vigor on the unit or fighting Empire greatswords, you want to use the spears if you have them. Initiative matters an...
